The first step to choosing a paintball marker is to determine what format of the game you prefer to play. There are various kinds of paintball games: woodsball, speedball, and scenario games.
Once you’ve decided on what type of game you want to play, it’s important to consider how much money you want to spend on your paintball gun. You’ll also need to think about how often you plan on playing, as well as how much time you have available in which to set up and clean up after each game session.

When choosing a paintball marker, there are several characteristics to consider. The first thing that you should do is determine what type of game you will be playing. Do you want to play woodsball, speedball, or any other game format? If so, which one is it?
The second thing that you should consider before purchasing a paintball pistol is the size of the marker. Make sure that your marker has a good weight and balance so that it does not feel heavy when holding it in your hands. This can make the game more enjoyable for both you and your opponent.
Another facet that you should consider before buying a paintball marker is its power level. Make sure that your marker has enough power to shoot through thick vegetation and trees without any problems. If someone shoots their gun under such circumstances, they may get stuck in the thick foliage or tree bark and be unable to move out of trouble until help arrives on site or until they reach the home base where they can call for assistance.

My Tops Picks in Best Paintball Guns
Since I have been into this sport for almost two decades now, I have used several guns and their updated variants. With my practical and first hand experience with these markers, I think that I can guide new players in a sound manner.
Here I have reviewed the top 7 paintball guns and I have provided my detailed experiences with those guns. I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to find one of your favorite guns from the list.
1. Planet Eclipse EMEK 100 Mechanical Paintball Marker
- Brand: Planet Eclipse
- Color: Black
- Caliber: 0.66
It’s a durable and accurate mechanical paintball marker that is suitable for both new and experienced players. It is not PAL enabled. However, it shoots smoothly and is very easy to use..
This is one of my favorites from the list of best paintball markers. One of the top reasons for this gun to be my favorite is that it’s easy to clean and use. Besides this, it’s very much accurate and smooth in terms of shooting at the target. You are very less likely to miss your target with this one.
I found this marker very durable upon using it for a whole season of paintball. Planet Eclipse has been into paintball gear for quite some time now. But I like EMEK 100 above all other markers. Its updated version is even better in terms of accuracy and smooth working.
Overall it would make a great marker for starter players who don’t want to invest thousands of bucks on a paintball gun.
The only major drawback of using this marker is not being PAL enabled. It simply means that this marker won’t load paintballs automatically in the gun for more speedy shots.
- Very accurate mechanical marker
- Easy to clean and use
- Smooth shooting
- It’s not PAL enabled
Expert Opinion: I recommend this mechanical paintball marker to all those who are tired of seeing their batteries not being charged. It’s a less expensive and more valuable option in mechanical guns. It can serve the purpose for beginners as well as pro players.
2.Tippmann TiPX Mag Fed Paintball Pistol
- Brand: Tippmann
- Color: Black
- Caliber: 0.68
This is a magazine fed, 0.68 caliber and Carbon Dioxide Powered handgun. It is very powerful and compact in terms of on field performance. Which is a great choice as a backup weapon.
If you are really passionate about paintball you can’t rely on a single paintball gun or marker. But obviously, you can’t carry two guns on missions. Ideally, you must have a very powerful and reliable paintball pistol as a backup. This Tippmann TiPX Pistol is your choice.
It really looked like a military style gun with a powerful profile. I used it for quite some time and explored every feature of it. I found this gun very compact and lightweight. It’s very much reliable in terms of speed too. I increased its speed to near maximum and it was just amazing. It shoots almost 13 shots per CO2 cartridge. The CO2 cartridge is easy to load and arm and can be stored for long periods of time.
The gun can also be used as a non-lethal home defense weapon and works perfectly well as a side arm. The only major issue was faced with curved shots. It started losing accuracy after some use. I tried to disassemble and reassemble it to troubleshoot the accuracy issue but nothing improved.
- Non lethal
- CO2 powered
- High Speed gun
- Lost accuracy after some time
Expert Opinion: I recommend this weapon as a good and reliable sidearm for pro-paintball players. It’s a great marker with decent speed and power.
3. Valken M17 Magfed Paintball Marker
- Brand: Valken
- Barrel Material: Aluminum
- Rounds: 18
This is a tactical gun with a solid design. Its mechanical firing system requires no battery. It has accessory rails on it for a customized look with lights, lasers, etc..
This gun is my lucky charm. Well on a serious note it helped me win many tough missions. Its blow-forward operating system makes it accurate and consistent. Being a mechanical gun it doesn’t require any batteries. This makes it a solid mid weight gun.
The most favorite part of the gun is that it is customizable and I was able to make it suit my style. I added laser lights and fore grips occasionally and it was all fun to use it that way.
It had a short barrel and I upgraded that with a longer one. So if you are buying this for woodsball, upgrading its barrel would be a win-win decision.
I bought this back in 2018, and now they have a few upgrades. You can check Valken’s upgraded markers with advanced specifications too. I found this model the perfect choice for beginners. This thing is easy to operate even for a novice player and is quite accurate.
- Ambidextrous magazine release
- No battery required
- Solid Design
- Comes without a tank
Expert Opinion: I found this gun a perfect choice for beginners. It offers enough power and consistency, plus the weapon is easy to control on the field.
4. Umarex T4E Walther PPQ .43 Caliber Paintball Gun Marker
- Brand: Umarex
- Color: Flat Dark Earth
- Rounds: 8
Umarex Walther is a 0.43 caliber paintball marker. It is a training pistol that is compatible with rubber and powder bullets too. I found this as one of the best markers under $200..
This gun is as close to the real thing as it gets. It has three color variants. Very accurate, powerful, and just plain cool. It’s perfect for training purposes. Unlike other similar guns, the valve in the magazine holds the CO2 for weeks without losing pressure.
It’s a reliable gun on the field. I’ve fired hundreds of rounds through this PPQ without a single misfire, chop, or any issues at all. The gun has an adjustable rear sight and fixed front sight.
It has two variants Gen 1 and Gen 2. The first one carries 9 rounds, 8 in the magazine and 1 in the barrel which jams very often. Gen 2 variants carry only 8 rounds but don’t jam at all. So I recommend the second one.
Its design is great but the metal used on the barrel is not durable. It is almost ruined after continuous use for a few months. But I guess it’s expected with this low priced gun.
- Compatible with paintballs, rubber and powder balls.
- Comes with a built-in CO2 cartridge
- Cost effective
- Low quality metal used
Expert Opinion: It is a low profile and inexpensive marker. I recommend this marker to all recreational players who don’t play very often. It would be a great stylish weapon on the field.
5. Dye Rize CZR Paintball Marker
- Brand: Dye
- Color: Black/Grey
- Calibeer: 0.68
It’s a powerful paintball marker with good shooting speed. This air powered gun is compatible with compressed air tanks only. It works perfectly fine with starter players..
I have been using Dye paintball gear for quite some time now. But I was a bit skeptical about buying this expensive marker. Because the seller was not offering any refund in case of any defect. Still, I took the risk and placed my order. Delivery was quick and I received the gun the very next day.
What I got was a really powerful beast. These guns are extremely easy to use and powerful.
It came with a compressed air tank and worked smoothly with that. I didn’t find it compatible with a CO2 tank.
The gun is easy to control. I recommend this to all beginners and entry level players for being easy to use. It really helps in improving target shooting and accuracy.
The only major drawback is that this gun is not very durable. It broke in less than a month of 5 days week play. The battery life of the gun is also quite low, so it won’t last long. You would have to keep a backup for a longer play.
- Powerful paintball marker
- Good shooting speed
- Offers great accuracy for beginners
- Comparatively expensive gun
Expert Opinion: I recommend this gun as a top lead in the category of entry level markers. This marker works great for new players and helps them improve their targeting.
6. Tippmann A-5 .68 Caliber Paintball Marker
- Brand: Tippmann
- Color: black
- Air Gun Power: CO2
Its comfortable grip, decent fire rate, impressive firing range, and high accuracy, all combined to make the Tippmann A-5 a perfect gun. It’s a customizable paintball marker that is suitable for different scenario games..
The best feature of this paintball pistol is that it is absolutely reasonable in addition to being simple to alter and overhaul. What I truly love about the Tippmann A5 sniper paintball gun is that it functions as a fast shoot paintball marker, using the licensed typhoon feed framework, which is useful in enabling more quick shots by guaranteeing that the air gun is associated with the feeder sprocket. In addition, the foremost element of this gun doesn’t need an electronic loader which further makes it simpler for me to load and shoot paintballs.
You can likewise trade out the hold for an overhauled electronic trigger that supports full auto just as single shot fire modes. With huge loads of alternatives for realistic looking body packs/kits, you can make your A5 resemble a threatening AK-47, strategic HK 417, or whatever your number one marker is.
I found this paintball gun durable because of its anti-jamming performance. The product ensures a more extended front hold due to upgraded ergonomics that made it easier for me to use.
It appears to be a well-designed, high-performance, sturdy, and best mid-range paintball gun. To check the strength, I let it drop once to the ground; the results were promising as I saw no damage to the gun.
- Ensures quick shots
- Preferred ergonomics over the others
- Advances ease when stacking and shooting paintballs
- No Large profile
Expert Opinion: I would recommend A-5 for people who are keen on situational or scenario play and woodsball. I found this most suitable paintball gun for woodball format.
7. Valken Gotcha Paintball Shotgun – 50 Cal
- Brand: Valken
- Color: blue
- Air Gun Power: CO2
It’s a low impact paintball gun that is suitable for kids between ages 9-16. Carbon dioxide and spring piston-powered gun with descent speed and power..
If you want a safe, reliable, and less expensive paintball gun for kids to present on their birthday or any other occasion, Valken has got you covered. I presented this gun to one of the kids on the field as a present and it was very compatible.
I felt the gun to be light and simple to use since it is mostly made out of plastic material. It is safe to use and easy to maintain even for a 10-year-old. Unlike other high-profile guns, it has a low profile and design. Valken is offering this model in two colours, red and blue.
It uses .50 caliber paintballs and those balls don’t cause any welts or bruises upon hitting. But it doesn’t mean that this gun is low in power or speed. In fact, it has a decent speed and serves the job well.
- Suitable for under 18
- Safe on field
- Low profile gun
Expert Opinion: I recommend Valken Gotcha on account that it is completely safe and highly reliable. It will not cause any swelling or any paintball-related wounds for the kids playing with it (under adult supervision).
